Snug plays a very minor role compared to the cut scene he was to be in. After Helen learns of her husband's location, she figures that she would need a form of aircraft to get to Nomanisan Island. Helen decides to ring Snug, who is an old acquaintance of Helen's. Helen asks him for something that is fast, to which Snug replied that he will find something that will work for her. Snug is not seen in person for the entire film, only appearing in an old photograph with Helen.

Development[]

In the original pitch for the film, Snug piloted the plane and was killed when it was struck by Syndrome's missiles. Brad Bird wanted a character to die during the plane explosion scene to emphasize how dangerous Syndrome was. However, in order to make audiences care about Snug's death, several scenes to establish his character had to be added, which was forecasted to result in the focus being taken off the main characters. There was not enough time in the film to develop his character enough to make the audience feel the impact of his death, so he was cut.

According to Brad Bird, he stated that Snug was a pilot who flew supers around the world if they didn't have any flying abilities.

Early in production, John Lasseter suggested that Helen fly the plane. Brad Bird initially resisted because he still wanted someone to be lost in the explosion. However, he soon realized that the scene would work better with Helen in Snug's role on account of having her as the sole person responsible for her family's safety heightened the intensity.

Trivia[]

  • Snug's influence can be seen in Incredibles 2, despite not being mentioned or seen, as evidenced when Helen takes command of the helicopter Ambassador Selick is on that was remotely hijacked by the Screenslaver so that she could be saved.
