"Behold the Underminer! I am always beneath you, but nothing is beneath me! I hereby declare war on peace and happiness! Soon, all will tremble before me! "
—The Underminer's monolouge

The Underminer is a minor antagonist in The Incredibles and Incredibles 2. He is also the main antagonist of The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer and a major antagonist of The Incredibles: Comic Series.

Personality[]

The Underminer is portrayed as a man with lots of bravado. He is a supervillain that can be described as 'loud and proud', announcing to the world that he wants to destroy peace and joy. He also seems to enjoy being a supervillain, frequently chuckling while robbing the bank.

Physical appearance[]

The Underminer is a short, stocky man with a large torso and short legs. His eyes are obscured by the miner's helmet he wears on his head, but his face resembles that of a mole or beaver, having a long snout and rodent teeth. He has two robotic hands that are very articulate, and they each have two webbed like fingers and one thumb. These can be used for excavating, as weapons. Whether they are worn as gloves or prosthetic replacements is currently unknown.

Biography[]

The Incredibles[]

The Underminer appears from a gigantic drill vehicle to declare war against the surface world, prompting the Parr family to spring into action and serving to demonstrate that they will go on to have many adventures and fight various enemies as a superhero team. He does not have any superpowers but instead utilises robotic gloves, a drilling machine, bombs and other equipment. His goal is to bring war to Earth.

Incredibles 2[]

The Underminer returns as the opening antagonist as the Incredibles 2 took place directly after the first film. He appears in a flashback though the eyes of Tony Rydinger, in which he is making the same speech as he did at the end of the first film, and in which Tony runs away and hides under a car from him. He is also portrayed as a terrorist and bank robber, which were not present traits in Rise of The Underminer, released 13 years before.

When Mr. Incredible finds the Underminer, they fight until Mr. Incredible is sucked up by a vacuum. He uses bombs to bring the bank underground so he can suck up the money using the vacuum. Then, he escapes with the money, leaving the drill machine hurtling towards the town hall, which Frozone barely prevents from doing so.

Afterwards, it is unknown what happened to the Underminer since he is never seen again afterwards and is only mentioned a few times more, such as when two detectives question Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl about the incident. During the credits, the Underminer can be seen in his drill machine coming up off of the ground.

The Incredibles: Comic Series[]

The Underminer makes an appearance in the "Terror from Beneath" story arc, in which he briefly allies with Dash to fight off alien invaders. However, the appearance is revealed to be part of an extensive hypnosis-induced dream. He later makes an actual appearance as a member of The Unforgivables, the criminal alliance headed by Xerek. As part of a plan to ruin the reputation of the Incredibles, Underminer is given control of a giant robot painted in the Incredibles' colors and rampage through Metroville. Xerek later eliminates Underminer upon completing his purpose.
